Marketed as a more fashionable alternative to the standard telephones available from the GPO in the 1960s, the name ‘Trim’ in Trimphone is an acronym standing for Tone Ring Illuminator Model, and referred to the then innovative electronic ringer (which “warbled” as opposed to the traditional bell of the time) and illuminated dial. This updated incarnation - which simply plugs into a standard modern-day phone socket - features such improvements over the original as pushbutton dialling, a redial button and adjustable ringer-volume.
